(L.abbas territorialis); territorial abbot is a priest entrusted with the pastoral care of a territorial abbacy. He is the proper pastor because he is given his power by law itself, and is not exercising it in the name of the pontiff or the diocesan bishop. Even though they are not ordained bishops, they have the right of membership in the bishop’s conference (cf. c 450.1).
